After 5 weeks of round games our U16 Championship drew to a conclusion on Sunday 21st April.
Kicking off the day, with the C Final between Limerick and Clare. These teams met in Round 3 of championship with Limerick taking the win 2-12 to 1-10 on the 25th February. With this in the back of their minds, both teams went out and played some fantastic football in the C Final. Limerick came out victorious again in the finale with a final score of Limerick 5-07 Clare 3-05.
Next up on the day, Waterford and Tipperary contested the B Final. Tipperary and Waterford played each other in the final round, Round 5, of the championship, with Waterford taking the spoils on this day. On the day of the final, some wonderful football was displayed by both teams, but it was Waterford who were crowned MLGFA U16 B Champions on a scoreline of Waterford 3-11 Tipperary 3-06.
To conclude what had already been a wonderful day of football, was Cork and Kerry in the A Final. This was always going to be a hotly contested final as are all Cork and Kerry fixtures. These teams met in Round 4 of the championship, and with Cork taking a comprehensive victory over Kerry, they went into the final as stand out favourites. On the day of the final, no one would have predicted such an enthralling final. From start to finish it was an equally contested game. This required extra time to find the Champion, but after extra time, it was Kerry who were crowned MLGFA U16 A Champions for 2024. Kerry 0-14 Cork 0-12.
