Limerick Begin Under 14 campaign with win

Limerick’s Under 14 girls football team travelled to play
Tipperary in Lattin Cullen last Saturday, 1 March in Round 1 of the Under 14B
Munster Championship.  In ideal
conditions in Lattin Cullen, both sides got stuck in from the start and
defences on both sides were giving nothing away, until the twelfth minute when
Limerick’s Captain Lauren Ryan, broke through the Tipperary defence to score a
goal.  This sprung the game to life and
Tipperary responded with a goal and a point.
Limerick introduced Emma Conway into the full back line and Limerick
responded with points from Lauren Ryan and Laura O’Shaughnessy to leave the
Half Time Score: Limerick 1-2 to
Tipperary 1-2.

There was a real
battle in store for the second half, with all to play for.  Limerick made further changes to the forwards
introducing Sinead Callinan, Orla Regan and Emma Frewen.  Limerick went on a scoring spree, with excellent
scores coming from Eimear Kirby, Lauren Ryan and two from midfielder Andrea
O’Sullivan, Tipperary responded with a goal. Limerick defended right to the end
and it would be unfair to single out any player, as it was a superb team
effort.  Final Score: Limerick 1-6 to  Tipperary’s 2-2. Well done to all the girls
and the full panel, to Manager Kevin Boyle and his backroom team.   Our thanks to Latin Cullen GAA for having
the pitch in excellent condition, Tipperary for a very sporting game and to our
supporters who travelled to the game. The girls next match is at home to
Waterford on Saturday, 15 March.
