Waterford will be big favourites to bounce back

This time last season Waterford headed into their Division 2
campaign in rude health and full of confidence having reached the All-Ireland
Intermediate Final. However, it was to be a nightmare campaign suffering many
heavy defeats along the way but their loss to Clare doomed them to life in the
third tier. A win in their last round against Kildare counted for nothing other
than the fact that they had the ability to compete.

However, Division 3 life may give them the perfect chance to
regain some confidence and let them rebuild their way back to become
Intermediate contenders again.

Pat O’Brien will certainly get a chance to rebuild his team
in Division 3 and maybe will even be able to introduce some younger players.
They will again certainly depend on many of the old guard who at this stage
have fought many a campaign and noises from the Waterford camp are largely
positive as they are up for one more battle to get back to Division 2.

They open their campaign against the All-Ireland junior
champions Offaly who should be full of confidence having gained promotion last
season, home games against Tipp and Leitrim should yield further points but
some difficult away trips to Longford and Armagh will tell a lot about the
hopes of the Waterford girls.

It would be a major surprise if Waterford fail to make the
semi-finals and from there it is very much in their own hands if a return to
Division 2 is possible.
