UL too strong for youthful Kerry

Rathmore GAA grounds hosted the meeting of University of
Limerick and Kerry in Round 2 of the Kennedy Cup and despite an improvement in
performance from Kerry, University Limerick proved far strong in a 7-15 to 1-8
win.

It was evident from the start that UL wanted to end this game
early and peppered the Kerry back line with long balls and had breached the
Kerry rearguard 3 times by the 13^th minute to give them a 3-2 0-1
lead. Niamh O’Dea and Aine Tighe (2) with the goals.

Kerry did produce some spells of good football none more
than when Nicole O’Connor was on the end of a great move to goal a move which was begun by
Maire Quirke and helped along the way by Klara O’Sullivan.

Kerry had it back to 3-6 to 1-6 by the 24^th
minute but some costly lapses in concentration left UL add 1-3 unanswered to give them
a comfortable half time lead.

UL affectively won this game inside the first ten minutes of
the second half as they ran up another three goals with Anna Galvin (1) and Aine
Tighe getting her third and  fourth. Tighe won many friends and admirers in the local crowd
from her display. Indeed the Leitrim player ended the night with a personal
total of 4-4.

Kerry ran the changes late on trying to give, as
many players game experience and indeed it will be useful later in the year
when many of these players will compete in the Under 21 grade. Despite their 2 defeats many young players will have come to the notice for future senior teams

Meanwhile DJ Collins and UL will have one eye on the O’Connor
Cup and with a victory over MIC next week they will secure a first all College Kennedy
Cup final where UCC will await them.

Referee Seamus Mulvihill had a fine game in the centre of
the field
