Students teach Kingdom a lesson

Kerry minus all their Munster championship winning team had
no answer for a MIC team that powered to victory on the back of dominant
midfield performances from Fiona Morrissey and Sarah Harrington in a deserved 3-8 to 0-7 win in the MIC Sport grounds today

Kerry made the better start with Leanne Mangan and Laura
Sheeran both pointing early but it was a high ball delivered into the Kerry square
that was not dealt with let Mary I in for their first goal on 4 minutes thanks
to Leann Walsh. Finn and Cormican both added further to the Limerick sides
score and despite a Leanne Mangan reply from Kerry it was evident that the
students were on top in most sectors.

A 17th minute goal by Noirin Kirwan put further
daylight between the sides as they took a 2-7 to 0-3 lead to the break.

Kerry had a penalty brilliantly saved by Clare Finn and
indeed the Wexford girl was equally brilliant pulling of a point blank save
from Nicole O’Connor in the second half.

The second half was a dour affair with only one score inside
the first 18 minutes. In the later stages, Kerry played some of their
better football in which they added 4 points from play but just as it looked
like they were getting within shouting distance, Fiona Morrissey added a late
goal to give the students a real chance of reaching the Jim Kennedy Cup Final.

Kerry must now beat UL on Friday evening while MIC and UL
will go head to head on 15th Jan. In the other section UCC play
Waterford at home on 7th Jan

Referee Kevin O’Brien was making his debut at Inter County
senior grade and can be well pleased with his outing.
