No Joy in Post Primarys Inter Pro’s

Having travelled in high spirits and seeking a three in a
row our interprovincial post primary team were out gunned in the end losing the
plate final to Ulster.

They started out well defeating Ulster in Round 1
on a 4-3 to 0-5 score line. Laura Crowley and Mairead Corkery getting first
half goals to give them a half time lead of 2-3 to 0-2 and they kicked on in
the second half with further goals from Saoirse Moore and a second from Laura
Crowley.

Next up was Leinster in an encounter where Munster were
second best in most sectors. Niamh Carmody’s goal was the only score in a 2-7 to
1-0 defeat.

A win in the last game still gave Munster a chance and it
looked promising for long stages as they held a 0-2 to 0-0 lead but a vital
Connacht goal in the second half saw they edge it 1-2 to 0-3 in difficult
playing conditions.

That loss ended any hopes of a three in a row but a plate
final against Ulster awaited. In the end, Ulster had far too much for Munster
and ended comfortable 5-6 to 0-5 winners.

Still the Munster girls will learn from this and many of
them will see further All Ireland action in the months ahead with their schools.

MLGFA would like to thank all the players, management,
parents, supporters and schools for playing their parts. Despite not capturing
the title, their efforts were no way less than of those who went before them.

For the record Connacht won the Cup with a victory over
Leinster.
