Limerick begin campaign with win

In perfect conditions at a well presented Tournafulla pitch Limerick began their Tesco Homegrown NFL campaign with a solid 2-11 to 1-5 win against the girls from the wee county.

This game took some time to settle with both sets of backs
on top. Marie Curtin opened the scoring.

After 15 mins Louth led with the aid of a slight cross wind
0.3 to 0.2. The second quarter belonged to the treaty girls who scored 1.3 to
Louth’s 0.2.

The goal was a text book one where the ball was moved quickly from
the right corner back position swiftly along the wing to Megan O’Shea (captain
of last years U16 team) in the right corner forward position, who found Niamh
Richardson with a pinpoint pass that was clinically dispatched.

The second half was a much more impressive display by the
home team who out scored Louth 1.6 to a fortuitous goal. The Limerick goal was
a pile driver from substitute Stephanie Carroll who was very busy on her
introduction.

All 19 girls who played today can be well pleased with their
days work, but as was rightly pointed out to them there are another 15 girls
willing and able to claim a position on the field of play.
