#KerryLadiesSpringSeries Begins

The first game in the #KerryLadiesSpringSeries takes place on Sunday 2nd February in Fitzgerald Stadium at 1 pm against Tyrone.

The Kerry ladies have not played a competitive inter county game in Fitzgerald Stadium in
nearly 20 years to it is a great way to kick off the spring series. This is Kerry’s first game in their Tesco HomeGrown National League Division 1campaign.

Kerry come into this game
after a relatively successful 2013 season – after winning Division 2, gaining
promotion to Division 1 & also winning the Munster Championship, defeating
Cork for first time in nearly a decade. Kerry v Tyrone clashes are always a
classic & ladies football is no different. In 2010 both teams served up a
thriller in the All Ireland Semi Final with Kerry losing by just a solitary
point in the replay. Paths have not crossed very often since then as Tyrone
were plying their trade in Division 1 while Kerry were in Division 2.

While 2013 was a good year for Kerry,
unfortunately for Tyrone their season was cursed as they had 5 players on long
term injuries, but despite that they still challenged for honours in Ulster
& were defeated by a strong Galway side in the quarter finals of the All
Ireland. Tyrone will be looking to Gemma Begley & the pacy Cathy Donnelly to
lead their charge, while Kerry will be looking to the midfield partnership of
Bernie Breen &Emma Sherwood to feed quality ball into Sarah Houlihan &
Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh.

A good game is expected with both teams aiming to
put their mark on the 2014 season.

The #KerryLadiesSpringSeries campaign aims to publicise the
Kerry Ladies TescoHomeGrown Division 1 National League games as Kerry are in a
very fortunate position of having 5 games out of 7 in Kerry. The second game on
16th February sees Kerry take on Laois in John Mitchells new facility, which
recently held the McGrath Cup games very successfully. Other games in the
series include  Cork on 2nd March who are
the current All Ireland champions & also Mayo make the journey to Kerry on
30th March with Cora Staunton spearheading their attack.. The final game sees
Kerry take on Donegal on the 6th April.
