Kerry Weekly Notes – Imedla Roche PRO

Kerry’s PRO  Imedla Roche gives a round up of their victory over Tyrone.

The Kerry Ladies senior team got
off to a good start in their return to the Tesco HomeGrown National Football
League Division. They defeated Tyrone on a score of 1-16 to 1-06 in the first
game of the #KerryLadiesSpringSeries which took place in Fitzgerald Stadium
supported by Lord Kenmare’s Restaurant.

Despite the bad weather the pitch was
perfect, which is testament to the good work of the grounds staff there. Both
teams started off a little edgy but it was Kerry who dominated possession in
the early stages & would have been disappointed with their return, with the
first score only coming after 6 mins from Louse Ni Mhuirtceartaigh.

The first
half finished with Kerry 0-7 Tyrone 0-4. However the Kerry team we know &
love returned to the fold in the second half & after 10 mins Patrice
Dennehy goaled for the Kingdom after a well worked team move, leaving the score
1-08 to 0-4. Tyrone did reply immediately with a point but Kerry took over
& went onto score 7 points leaving them in a comfortable position.

 Tyrone near
the end did get a fortunate goal, a high ball lobbed in over rookie keeper
Amanda Brosnan’s head. However Kerry sealed the game with the final point &
taking full points on their return to Division 1. Final score 1-16 to 1-06. The
defence played extremely solid as usual & Bernie Breen dominated in
midfield. Though Kerry hit a number of wides in the first half, they found
their shooting boots in the second half.

A much sterner test ahead, as next
they face Dublin.
That game is scheduled for Sunday 9th February in Portmarnock,
weather permitting. Kerry’s next home game in the #KerryLadiesSpringSeries is
16th February in John Mitchells Complex, Tralee against Laois.
