Brigid’s are Crowned Limerick Minor A Shield Champions:

St Brigids 2-7 Knockainey 1-8. 

The Minor A Shield Final was staged in Herbertstown on Saturday last, where neighbouring Clubs St Brigids and Knockainey faced each other in what turned out to be a cracking game of football with plenty of skill, determination and excitement on show to delight the crowd.

St Brigids settled into the game quickly with the magnificent back line of Margaret Ryan, Laura Kennedy, Sarah O’Sullivan and Grainne Kennedy cutting out the Knockainey attack and moving the ball through the midfield unit of Orlaith Donoghue, Louise Ryan and wing forward Kate Kennedy who worked tirelessly to supply ball to Brigids forward line resulting in a score line of 2-3 to 0-3 at halftime where Megan O’Shea, Eimear Daly, Orlaith Donoghue and Captain Laura Delaney all contributed fine scores to leave St Brigids looking comfortable at half time.

Knockainey started the second half at a frantic pace and St Brigids under pressure for the rest of the game, Megan Kelliher, Leanne Hartnett and Clodagh Kirby were excellent in this period for Knockainey and despite trojan defensive work by Michelle Donovan, Leonie O’Donnell and magnificent goalkeeping by Lea O’Dwyer, Knockainey edged in front for the first time by a point. However St Brigids were determined not to lose this game and through some excellent forward play from Fiona Garvey, Megan O’Shea and the hardworking Niamh Holland who all scored to finish out the game two point winners to land the A Shield Title for the second year running. 

Tribute must also be paid to the Knockainey Team, who made St Brigid’s fight all the way for the title. Well done to both teams, who had the crowd on edge until the final whistle, with an excellent game of football.
