Cahir capture Tipp Minor title

Ned Hall Park Clonmel was the venue for the Tipperary Ladies Football Minor A County Final on Sunday last as the 2012 champions Cahir looked to retain their title against Moyle Rovers. Despite the blustery conditions, this game promised to be an exciting one and it lived up to the billing from the moment referee Derek O’Mahoney threw in the ball. Cahir settled well with Kirsty Downey scoring a goal within ninety seconds of the throw in. Moyle Rovers responded well to the early set-back with points from Sarah Everard (2) and Megan Shanahan (free) to bring the sides level after eight minutes. In the following minutes Cahir’s Aisling Moloney would score two points with Niamh Brennan responding with a single point.

In the seventeenth minute Moyle Rovers would take lead by two points when Niamh Brennan lobbed the ball over the Cahir goalkeeper’s head into the back of the net. Moyle Rovers were now on top as Sarah Everard and Niamh Brennan added further points before Roisin McGrath would find the back of the Cahir net to put Moyle Rovers in to a comfortable lead of seven points. Roisin Howard, Cahir narrowed this by a goal and a point in the last five minutes of the first half so their deficit at half time was just three points – 2-6 to 2-3

Cahir started the second half well with Aisling McCarthy and Roisin Howard adding points before Roisin would score her second goal to give Cahir back the lead. Moyle Rovers were quick to reply when Everena Everard tapped a short ball into the back of the net. Cahir did not let this deter them and in the ninth minute they took back the lead when Aoife Corcoran lobbed the ball into the net. This time they did not let Moyle Rovers back into the game and held them scoreless for the next five minutes while they added a further four points to their own scoreline increasing the gap by six points before Moyle Rovers would manage to find the posts with a Megan Shanahan point. Both teams scored another point each before the referee blew the final whistle declaring Cahir Minor A Champions again for the second year in a row. Cahir 4-10 Moyle Rovers 3-8
